Inauguration Day 2021: A Monochrome Moment

Finally, Inauguration Day has come and gone and we can finally breathe, just possibly, a little easier. While there are plenty of other incredible moments from the day to talk about, from inaugural poet Amanda Gorman’s exceptional words of power, to the 17 executive orders that President Joe Biden signed into effect, it’s impossible to ignore the fashion statements made and the meanings behind them.

The star of the show? Monochrome, from mask to toe.

The Biden granddaughters, Naomi, Natalie, Finnegan, and Maisy Biden, and his daughter, Ashley Biden, made a statement in their monochromatic looks. Naomi donned an all-white look, which many saw to be a nod to the women’s suffrage movement. Natalie, in bubblegum pink, made waves on social media with her bright, yet sophisticated look. Finnigan kept it classic in camel. Of course, they weren’t the only ones who chose a monochromatic outfit for the day.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama, as always, did NOT disappoint. The style icon stepped out in a gorgeous plum monochromatic outfit complete with a sleek, bouncy curled hairdo. Needless to say, we are all endlessly thankful to Michelle for gracing us with her goddess-like presence, once again. Her color of choice, purple, was thought to possibly be symbolic of unity between parties; the mix of red and blue. Unsurprisingly, she broke the internet with this one. Next up in inauguration-day-monochrome-madness was the new first lady, Dr. Jill Biden.

Next up we have Madame Vice President Kamala Harris herself. Just like Michelle, Kamala made a statement of unity in purple. She also wore her signature pearls around her neck and in her ears, just like many other women across the country did in her honor, paired with chucks.

And again, in purple, we have Former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. This, once again, is thought to possibly be a nod to hopes of unity and bipartisanship.
